B TEAM

MANAGER'S SUMMARY OF THE SEASON

It was always going to be a tough season for the B team. The squad consisted of a number of players playing in their first season of competitive football and a number of boys who were playing in a year higher age band than they should've been , as unfortunately Richmond Rovers were unable to run an Under 9s team last season.

Despite this , with very few exceptions , the team proved to be extremely competitive. The highlights were a couple of back-to-back league wins before Christmas , against Hillgate Boys and Bramhall North , which the boys celebrated like they'd won the World Cup. They'd worked so hard , it was brilliant to see. My personal favourite was a battling 0-0 draw with a strong Marple Athletic side when all the boys' grit and determination was stretched to the very limit.

Yes , there was a string of defeats , but they lost by a single goal in the league on no fewer than 9 occasions. For youth football at this age-group that is a remarkable statistic. It speaks volumes for their spirit and shows just how competitive they were.

Most importantly the boys enjoyed their football and learnt a lot. In particular those boys who will again be playing Under 10s football next season will reap the benefit from this year's experience. Well done lads.
