Umbro Soccer 6s

Game 1
Richmond Rovers 1 v 1 Langho

Slow start by the Richmond team in this first group game, Langho took the lead with a deflected corner, this seemed to wake the lads up and they started to string a few passes together. It did however need a Jack Hayward special to level the scores and the game ended in a draw.

Game 2
Richmond Rovers 1 v 0 South Manchester

This turned out to be a scrappy game with the Manchester team hitting long balls forward to their lone striker and easily dealt with by Ryan Stock who was settling into his usual no nonsense stride. Again it took another goal by Jack Hayward to give the team their first win in the group.

Game 3
Crewe 0 v 3 Richmond Rovers

The lads now had the bit between their teeth and the midfield and forward line now started to link up well together, After some good passing movements Richmond took the lead with a Budjie Borrow tap in after some excellent work by Matty Sherlock, this move was repeated in reverse and Matty notched his first goal of the tournament and then scored a scorcher that hit the back of the net and came out causing the referee to have short think about what caused the bulge in the back of the net .

Game 4
Great Moor County 0 v 2 Richmond Rovers

Old rivals Great Moor started brightly but the lights were soon put out when first ( ENTER THE DRAGON ) Ryan Cooper scored his first goal and this was followed by Hayden Cookes first of the afternoon , Ryan continued to be a thorn in the side for the rest of the match leaving no blade of grass unturned.

Game 5
Alderley Edge Juniors 0 v 2 Richmond Rovers

Expected this to be a hard game with Alderley wearing the colours of Argentina, the lads are now in full flow and some great 1-2s between Budjie Borrow and Matty Sherlock ended the match with both players scoring, again at the back Ryan Stock repelled all borders and any one who dared to get past him came up against Big Jack Underwood.

Game 6
Richmond Rovers 1 v 0 Hyde United

This turned out to be one of the harder games, with Hyde needing some points to get to the last 16, again Jack Underwood kept the early threat at bay and Jack Hayward scored his third of the day to put the points in the bag.

Game 7
Juno United 0 v 3 Richmond Rovers

Another team needing points but to no avail with new signing Sam Morris Bagging two goals sandwiched between another Budjie Borrow goal, credit to Juno for keeping the score down on this occasion.

Game 8
Tytherington Juniors 0 v 3 Richmond Rovers

Matty Sherlock was off to a flyer with an early shot that whistled past the post, not to be outdone he soon made amends by sending a shot into the roof of the net, this was followed by more good work from Matty that resulted in a goal for Hayden Cooke, to top off the group stage a second goal was put away by Matty making him top scorer for the day.

Last 16
Richmond Rovers 5 v 0 Reddish North End

Produced the most one sided display I have seen at this level for some years and Jack Underwood didn't even touch the ball ! goals by Jack Hayward, Sam Morris, Budjie Borrow, Ryan Cooper and a first for Ryan Stock completed the demolition and onward to the Quarter-finals.

Quarter-final
Richmond Rovers 1 v 1 Shaw
  4-2 pens

We knew this would be a toughie, having played this academy team some weeks earlier at the Signol tournament winning 16- 15 on pens.
As expected Shaw were out for a reverse result and took the lead with an unstoppable shot, unfortunately for Shaw Sam Morris had a thunderbolt of his own up his sleeve ( or down his sock ) and the scores were level.
Both teams tried to end the match before the end of normal time but the dreaded Penalty shoot out beckoned, Jack Underwood came into his own with two fantastic saves that sent Richmond through to the semi-finals.

Semi-final
Richmond Rovers 0 v 0 Poynton
  5-4 pens

Again a great game between these two old rivals with end to end football, an unfortunate injury to Budjie Borrow ended his participation in the event and with Hayden Cooke already departed the team was down to the bare bones, some excellent goalkeeping by both keepers sent this tie to yet another penalty shoot out. With the scores at 5-4 Jack Underwood made yet another brilliant save and the reward was a fixture in the final.

Final
Nantwich Town 1 v 0 Richmond Rovers

Another fantastic advert for football with both teams locking horns in the middle of the park trying to make the break through, this fell to Nantwich Town after a great block by Jack Underwood the ball dropped at the feet of the striker who slotted the ball into the Richmond net. This stirred the Richmond players up who laid siege to Nantwich goal area even having a penalty claim turned down, alas it was not to be and the game ended with a 1-0 loss.

Credit to all the players for an afternoon of stunning football that entertained not just our supporters but all those that had the pleasure of witnessing the days events, last but not least eat your heart out Sven Goran Erikson and Steve McLaren

WELL DONE PETER HAYWARD AND GARRY FOULKES
